London - United Kingdom
S: Competitive

London is the best big city on Earth, with TfL Planning at the heart of investment decisions to ensure it stays that way. We are looking for people with big ideas, strategic thinking and a passion for London to lead on the development of innovative business cases for some of the UK's most high profile transport schemes.

The Role

This is an exciting, fast moving role where you will be responsible, with support from experts across the organisation, for making the case for investment to support hundreds of thousands of new homes and jobs, improve quality of life for millions of residents, visitors and workers, and ultimately shape the future growth of the Capital.

You will do this by:
• Directing transport modelling, forecasting and economic appraisal techniques, working closely with the GLA, other stakeholders and across TfL
• Managing specialist advice from consultants and academics
• Being an external advocate for the overall case for investment in strategic infrastructure in London
• Provide necessary support to ensure schemes are taken successfully through the consenting process
The role will also include helping to develop innovative new appraisal methods, working with experts on the cutting edge of their fields, to consider how investment in transport can support wider policy objectives on growth and quality of life.

About You

• If you are hard-working, positively look for solutions and work well under pressure you will thrive in this fast paced, energetic environment where you will be at the centre of fundamental decisions about London and close to London, central Government, European and international politics.
• We want to hear from people to help shape the future vision of London, so a wider understanding of how transport affects all aspects of Londoners' daily lives economically, socially and how they experience their wider environment, is essential.
• With a background in transport planning, town planning or economics, you will have already been involved in the preparation of businesses cases and appraisal across a wide range of projects.
• You will also be highly analytical, a skilled problem solver, with strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work flexibly to meet TfL and Mayoral objectives.

About TfL Planning

TfL reinvests all of our income into making London the best city it can be, and is now one of the world's most innovative transportation agencies. As a result of various policy initiatives, including the successful introduction of the congestion charge, Oyster, and huge investment in public transport capacity, London is experiencing the largest mode shift away from the private car of any large city in the world. You will have a chance to play a key role in this turning point in London's growth and shape its future.

You will be working in the Policy and Strategy team which is at the heart of the big decisions on the future of our city. Working with others in TfL, in the development of key transport and related policies, we produce major strategic documents, such as the Mayor's Transport Strategy and London Plan, as well as help shape Mayoral policy and make the case for big schemes.
