Research & Policy Analyst—Public Accountability

The primary aim of the Public Accountability initiative area is to improve the efficiency and efficacy of the public sector. We promote transformational change that establishes greater accountability for the sustainable use of public funds through expanding the availability and usability of data, building the evidence base for public policy and social interventions, and systematically incorporating evidence in decision making.
Position: Research & Policy Analyst—Public Accountability
Salary: $45,000 to $75,000 depending on qualifications, plus benefits
Office: Houston, Texas
Core Responsibilities:
The Research & Policy Analyst will support LJAF's Public Accountability portfolio by providing timely policy research and data analysis. This portfolio currently includes investments in the areas of public pension reform, social impact financing, low-cost and large-scale randomized controlled trials, evidence-based policy making, tax expenditures, economic mobility, and social service delivery. Responsibilities may include:
• Identifying and researching opportunities for policy action and charitable investment in public accountability
• Performing data analysis to inform and support public accountability projects
• Writing and editing policy papers and other publications related to public accountability
• Making policy recommendations based on research findings and data analysis
• Presenting findings and policy recommendations to LJAF staff and outside stakeholders
Essential Skills, Experience, and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree in economics, public policy, statistics, or a related field
• Experience writing and editing public policy briefs and/or reports
• Experience performing data analysis
• Ability to grasp theoretical concepts, interpret quantitative research materials, and understand statistical methods used in social science research
• Ability to evaluate complex information and creatively find answers to policy questions
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong quantitative research skills and a solid understanding of statistical methods used in social science research
• Public policy, regulatory, and/or legislative experience – (preferred)
