The Economic and Public Policy Research group (EPPR) conducts a range of customized economic policy studies including economic impact analysis, detailed industry studies, regional economic development analysis and public policy reports on topics of interest to policymakers in government, business, and academia. Research Analysts support the work of EPPR through quantitative data analysis, literature reviews, surveys, and interviews. The position may entail significant writing duties and some independent task or project management. Typically, Research Analysts work collaboratively under the direction of a Research Manager, Senior Research Manager, and/or the EPPR Director.
Job Description:
Research Analysts are expected to have strong proficiency in the use of professional office software, with an emphasis on Excel skills, and strong skills with specialized statistical software such as Stata or SPSS. Research Analysts work with public data sources from a wide range of Federal, State and Local data providers, including the U.S. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, as well as private data providers to extensively analyze social, economic, and demographic conditions. Research Analysts work with large data sets from sources such as Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and USASpending. Research Analysts are responsible for data collection, database development, and analysis of the data. Research Analysts prepare charts and tables, maps, memoranda, and write sections of reports. In addition to quantitative methods, Research Analysts conduct field research through interviews, surveys, focus groups, and literature reviews. Successful applicants will have academic training and practical experience with one or more research methods.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in economics, public policy, urban/regional or economic development planning, sociology, statistics, or a related discipline with Master's Degree preferred. Relevant professional experience is also preferred for this position. The successful applicant will have excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to work independently, and engage in collaborative research in a team setting. Knowledge of professional office software is required, with strong practical experience using Excel; the ideal candidate will have experience with Stata or a similar statistical software package, and/or related social science analytical software.

The University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute's plan to fill and retain this position is dependent upon project funding. The work location for this position is in our Hadley office. No relocation assistance is provided.
