Research Analyst, Antitrust and Innovation Policy

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF)—the world's top-ranked think tank for science and technology policy—seeks a policy analyst to conduct research and engage in public policy debates on a range of issues related to antitrust and competition policy, with a particular focus on how it impacts technological innovation, productivity, and competitiveness. ITIF has long focused on this nexus of antitrust issues and now seeks to ramp up its work. This is a full-time, permanent position.

The policy analyst will work on antitrust policy as it relates to innovation, reporting directly to ITIF's Director of Antitrust and Innovation Policy. The analyst will conduct research and author reports, blog posts, and op-eds. During the COVID remote-working period, the position can be anywhere. But after this period is over, the position will be in Washington, DC.

The ideal applicant will be a seasoned policy analyst with deep knowledge and experience in antitrust economics, particularly industrial organization, including conducting economic analysis of competition questions, both at the industry and economy-wide level. The applicant should have an understanding and appreciation of antitrust policy grounded in firm-level innovation capabilities and practices.

The successful candidate will have the chance to shape and deliver an exciting program of work on antitrust and innovation and be part of a dynamic and committed team.

Essential Responsibilities:
-Monitor and analyze ongoing policy developments and engage in public debates on the major antitrust and technology innovation issues of the day.
-Carry out in-depth economic research and communicate findings by writing clear and incisive policy reports, op-ed articles, blog posts, and other publications and materials on antitrust innovation and economics.
-Represent ITIF as a public speaker at conferences, panel discussions, debates, and other events.
-Develop and maintain effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders involved in research and policy.

Qualifications:
-At least three years' experience as a professional in the field of economics or antitrust policy, with considerable experience conducting economic analysis of market structure and performance
-Proven track record of producing high-quality research outputs, policy reports, op-eds, or other forms of policy-oriented communication.
-Advanced degree in economics, or political economy, with courses on industrial organization and other related economics areas.
-In-depth knowledge of industrial organization economics, microeconomic analysis, and the history of U.S. antitrust law and policy.
-Deep understanding and proven ability critique a variety of economic arguments and analyses regarding antitrust issues and claims.
-Exceptional writing skills, especially an ability to communicate succinctly and persuasively to policy audiences.
-Exceptional communication skills (including ability to present effectively in policy debates and speeches, work productively in a team environment, and communicate clearly under pressure).
-Keen interest in technology, innovation, and public policy
-Passion for engaging in policy debates, speaking at events, and promoting research for influential audiences.
-Econometric modelling skills are a plus.
-Ability to meet deadlines is essential.
