Position Description
Limited duration position; not to exceed 2-3 years
RAND seeks research assistants to work on a variety of health policy projects. Research assistants work with teams of experienced health economists, health services researchers, behavioral scientists, and medical doctors, providing qualitative and quantitative research support. Current research projects focus on a range of health policy issues, including health information systems, Medicare's payment systems, military health, occupational health, health insurance design and reform, public health preparedness, and racial and ethnic disparities in health care.
Research assistants' tasks include data collection, preparation, and analysis; support to modeling and simulation, and qualitative analysis; computer programming; literature reviews; organizing qualitative information in a database; preparation of draft documents, and presentations; and coordination of work among project team members. Research assistants may travel with project teams and may have the opportunity to co-author reports and journal articles.
Qualifications
Persons with experience in health and economics or health and information systems, qualitative or quantitative research in health policy, or public health are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
- Experience with statistical software packages (SAS/STATA) and/or computer programming
languages preferred
- Applicants should be highly motivated, organized, flexible, and have the ability to work
independently and as part of a team
Education Requirements
BA/BS or MPP/MPH and significant coursework or experience in health care research. Degrees preferred are MPH/MPP or BA in economics, public policy, public health, computer science, statistics, and/or pre- med coursework.
