Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

The Faculty of Economics in central Cambridge wishes to appoint a full time Research Assistant/Associate from September 2015 to work on a project funded by a European Union Horizon 2020 Grant, entitled "Bridging the gap: from Individual Behaviour to the Socio-tEchnical MaN (IBSEN)". The project is directed by Professor Sanjeev Goyal (http://www.econ.cam.ac.uk/faculty/goyal).

The aim of IBSEN is to provide a breakthrough by building a repertoire of human behaviour in large (1000+ persons) networks using controlled experiments. The project requires a high-degree of inter-disciplinarity; accordingly, the team consists of physicists, economists, social psychologists, and computer scientists from a number of universities in Europe.

The appointed person will work on the development of a novel setup for large groups of people that will provide an experimental protocol, the necessary software and analytical tools to allow the project to deal with thousands of people at the same time. The tasks of the role holder will include designing and running experiments, analyzing data, and writing papers for publication in top economics and science journals.

A background in the theory and empirical analysis of networks and strong knowledge of the design and empirical analysis of experiments is essential. Econometric skills and programming skills, including experience in working with large datasets, are desirable. The successful candidate will manage their own workload, continually update knowledge in economics, in programming and in econometric analysis and engage in continuous professional development.

Candidates should have a Ph.D or have submitted their PhD by September 2015. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the project leader.

This is a fixed-term appointment for three years from 1 September 2015 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The salary will be at either Research Assistant Grade 5, (£24,775 to £28,695) or Research Associate Grade 7 (28,695 to £37,394) on the University scale. Appointment as Research Associate is dependent on having a Ph.D. (or equivalent experience). Where a Ph.D. has been submitted but has yet to be awarded appointment will initially be made at Research Assistant and amended to Research Associate upon the award of Ph.D.
