Research Assistant I/II in the Asian Institute of International Financial Law within the Faculty of Law (Ref.: 498827) (to commence on November 15, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary)

Applicants should possess a good Bachelor's or a Master's degree requiring the use of data analytics, demonstrated proof (through a project or paper) of his/her ability to gather, use and write on large-data projects. The applicant should be acquainted with the Linear Model, as well as non-linear and discrete methods, clustering, some numerical optimization. Knowledge of a software package for conducting analysis including R, SPSS, SAS, and/or Statistica necessary, as is the ability to independently formulate testable hypotheses, design tests and/or statistical methods for obtaining results, and communicate those results forcefully and rigourously. Applicants will be able to interact with senior policymakers, academics and researchers world-wide, as well as work with more experienced quants.

The appointee is expected to work on a project dealing with the uses and effectiveness of new financial technologies (FinTech), collect data, develop empirical models and test these models related to the international adoption and efficacy of FinTech policies. Using methods from econometrics and machine learning, the analyst will put together new insights from the data into academic papers for submission to leading journals. He/She will have the opportunity to develop his or her data analysis capabilities with leading data scientists and scholars, work with senior officials on policy questions and contribute to their burgeoning publication record. This position is ideal for someone wanting to supplement an possibly non-traditional academic career with policy experience.
