The Research Department has an opening for a Research Associate reporting to the Economists in this area. In this entry level role, you will perform economic and statistical analyses to support the research initiated by Economists. This research is in part policy-oriented, and in part academic, aimed at publication in top journals. Much of the analysis will be conducted on personal and mainframe computers, using mathematical and statistical software such as Matlab, Gauss, Stata and R. You will present results of research to economists and management in oral or written reports on an as needed basis, and at times within tight deadlines.

Essential Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Write computer code to solve for equilibria of dynamic economic models.
Write computer code to perform statistical and econometric analysis of data, both time-series and cross-sectional.
Gather data by replicating established data collection procedures.
Learn data definitions and sources of data, such as Haver, FAME, Global Insight, and the Internet.
Design databases for use in economic research projects.
Write documentation of data sources and of statistical analyses that have been performed on the data.
Compile simulations or forecasts of economic variables for use in pre-FOMC briefings.
Produce standard chart packages as well as provide data and analysis for special topic briefings.
Review literature on research topics, contact others doing similar research.
Determine what information is relevant to the project and provide economists with summaries of findings, both orally and in writing.
Learn sources for keeping abreast of current economic developments.
Work individually or in a group to identify, communicate, and implement changes and initiatives with the goal of improving the quality of the operation or product.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. for a period of two years minimum. Sponsorship or practical training extensions are not available for this position.

Requirements/Technical Competencies/Education:
Bachelor's degree, with extensive coursework in economics (preferred) and mathematics (required).
GPA of 3.0 or higher (strongly preferred).
Strong oral and written communication skills (required).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word (required).
Experience with one or more computer programming and statistical analysis software packages such as Matlab, C, Fortran, Gauss, Stata and R (strongly preferred).
