GSB CSA CI Upstream Intelligence

The Global Strategy and Business Development (GSB) area brings together corporate strategy and business development (BD) activities to actively drive the corporate development of Statoil. GSB will set strong strategic direction and identify, develop and deliver opportunities for profitable growth for Statoil. This will be achieved through close collaboration across geography and business areas.

The Corporate Strategy and Analysis (CSA) unit is accountable for the strategic agendas on the Board of Directors and CEC levels, strategic objectives in the Ambition to Action process and CEC strategy summits. It is also responsible for competitor-focused intelligence (CI) and the analysis of industry dynamics and trends.

The Upstream Intelligence (UI) team provides decision support to senior management and contributes to the above objectives through analysis of the competitive landscape and oil and gas transactions. It is involved in related corporate initiatives and is responsible for generating insights on emerging industry, competitor and M&A trends which impact Statoil and the industry

JOB DESCRIPTION

Undertake advanced industry and peer/competitor analysis with a focus on the corporate perspective
Identify global and regional industry trends through advanced pattern recognition.
Produce concise and interpretative insights on specific and potential competitor and industry developments.
Prepare and deliver internal presentations.
Leverage analysis to draw implications for Statoil, contribute to the internal strategy dialogue and provide senior management with action-oriented recommendations.
Coordinate and draw upon relevant internal and external sources to enable us to deliver contributions in a cost effective and collaborative manner.
Contribute to the expansion of the company's international network and profile.
Contribute to the internal strategy development process
Project support with a focus on Business Development and M&A activities

QUALIFICATIONS

Significant and relevant commercial and analytical experience. Competitor intelligence experience within the oil and gas industry is an advantage.
Ability to draw information from multiple sources, define implications, and condense into a written report and present conclusions and insights to unit management
Knowledgeable about the upstream oil and gas industry and current affairs. Familiar with oil and gas industry information sources such as Wood Mackenzie and IHS
Knowledgeable about strategic tools and context.
Understanding of industry political processes and exposure to national oil companies is an advantage
Personal network within the oil and gas industry is an advantage
International experience gained either through work or personal circumstances is an advantage
Fluent English, written and spoken. Fluency in another language is an advantage
University Degree or equivalent, ideally in a relevant technical subject (e.g. petroleum engineering / geosciences), and/or finance / economics / business administration.
Relevant post graduate studies an advantage
