Senior Consultant / Managing Consultant - Regulation and Competition

We are looking for Senior Consultants and Managing Consultants with significant economic policy experience in the UK – ideally in consultancy or in the public sector – to join our growing Economics and Economic Policy team.

Our Economics and Economic Policy team is expanding its range of services in regulation and competition, including competition assessments, comparative analytical studies, consumer and regulatory policy development and evaluation services across a variety of market sectors. In the UK, we regularly undertake assignments for the key economic and sectoral regulators, including the CMA, Ofgem, ORR, Ofwat, FCA and Ofqual. Our client base continues to grow, making this an exciting time to join our team.

You will have around 6-8 years’ relevant experience and a degree in economics or a related field. You should have strong analytical and communication skills, work well in teams, show leadership qualities and be comfortable delivering work independently, setting the standard for others to follow. Familiarity with economic principles, including experience in one or more of the following areas, is essential for this role: regulatory policy/economics, competition and consumer policy, public policy evaluation and/or the application of economics to impact assessment. You will have experience of managing analytical projects and be able to show that you meet deadlines while managing a varied and changing workload.

You will have worked in an economics, policy and/or consultancy environment and you will have what it takes to deliver successful economics and policy-focused projects, working as part of a team to deliver common goals. You can express ideas clearly and understand how to examine the impacts of policies on economies, sectors and firms.

Main Tasks:

Contribute to business development. Help to win, manage and deliver economics-related projects for the UK Government and regulatory agencies among others.
Deliver qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, with a particular focus on the assessment and evaluation of public policies.
Manage project delivery, either whole projects or parts of projects, depending on experience and the scale of the project.
Take responsibility for meeting ICF standards in terms of quality and consistency of products delivered to our clients.
Develop expertise and intellectual property within the company on economics and economic policy issues. Lead others to do the same.
Manage and develop more junior colleagues in your team.
Identify and contribute to business development and marketing opportunities.

Qualifications/ Experience:

Degree in economics or related field.
Around 6-8 years’ relevant professional experience.
Experience of contributing to and driving economics and/or policy-related projects. Your experience could have been gained delivering work for the UK Government, regulatory agencies, competition authorities, the private sector or the third sector.
Familiarity with economic principles and experience of applying them to the assessment and evaluation of regulatory issues/economics, competition and consumer policy, economic development, innovation, social investment, public policy evaluation and/or the application of economics to impact assessment.
Project management experience, including experience of managing small project teams and delivering high-quality and successful analytical projects on time.
Business development experience and experience of managing stakeholders or clients would be beneficial.

Strong analytical skills in relevant areas.
Able to prioritise, multi-task and work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Able to work within multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary teams spread across several countries and time zones.
Excellent skills with Microsoft Office applications.
