Aurora Energy Research
Oxford - United Kingdom
S: Competitive

The Company
Aurora Energy Research is a dynamic and fast-growing energy analytics company. We provide research, consulting, and data-driven analytics on European and global energy markets that helps our clients navigate the global energy transformation.

Aurora was founded in 2013, by a group of University of Oxford academics on the premise that technological progress, and policies tackling climate change, render energy markets increasingly complex - but that this complexity yields to rigorous, sophisticated analysis and modelling.

Aurora is now a thriving, rapidly-growing company of over 120 staff with offices in Oxford, Berlin, and Sydney. Demand for our services – spanning subscription research and consultancy – is immense, in the UK and abroad. We currently serve over 200 of Europe's most influential energy sector participants, and we expect to grow beyond 150 staff over the next 18 months.

Senior Associate/Project Leader – Global Commodities, Oxford
Based in Oxford, you will lead Aurora's Commodities team– playing a pivotal role across the firm as the lead expert on these markets, and developing our thought leadership, analysis, and subscription product offering in this space.

The scope of this role will be on Global Commodities (coal, oil and gas) with a particular focus on European Gas markets. This involves keeping abreast and providing insightful client reports on key developments across the global energy system, including consideration of how global commodity markets will be affected by decarbonisation policies and the emergence of low carbon technologies.

You will play a critical role in all aspects of product delivery and development, as well as client engagement – directing our ongoing research, managing existing publications, conducting novel analyses, identifying client needs and new business opportunities, and developing new services.
You will develop data-driven strategic insights into the energy transition for both public and private sector clients, and manage junior colleagues in developing analysis and insights to enhance clients' decision making.

The commodities team produces Aurora's central outlook and scenarios for the development of gas and coal markets, which underpin Aurora's analysis of power markets. Although the role is based in our research team, the successful applicant would also play a role in supporting commodities-focused projects undertaken in our Commissioned Projects team – which in the past has included transactions and strategic advisory assignments.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. They will enjoy autonomy, the opportunity to substantially influence major decisions in the energy sector, and to grow into industry leaders under the guidance of Directors with deep experience addressing major strategic issues at the world's leading advisory firms.

The position suits an experienced associate/consultant from a top-tier strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or knowledge-driven firm or institution. The successful candidate will combine technical strength with a strong track record of leadership and performance in team-oriented environments.

Required attributes:
• At least 3-5 years of experience at a leading consultancy, energy company, investment
bank, or other knowledge-driven firm or institution
• First-class or high second-class university degree in a quantitative subject (Mathematics,
Economics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Finance)
• Previous experience of working on energy-related projects or policy – particularly in a
European context
• Demonstrated success in project and process management in team-oriented
environments
• Ability to analyse, interpret, and derive insight from complex quantitative data and
information
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with both technically and non-technically
minded parties
• Self-starter, entrepreneurial mindset, and desire to grow the business

Desirable attributes:
• It would be highly advantageous to have existing knowledge of global commodities
markets
• Leadership experience demonstrated by previous roles of professional responsibility or extracurricular activities
• Demonstrated success in client-facing positions
• Excellent written communication
• Competence in advanced data analytics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, Advanced Excel)
• Master's degree

The successful candidate would ideally start as soon as possible. Please submit a CV and cover letter and we will review applications as they are received.
