There is a real art in linking business, economics and problem solving with systems thinking to be able to see, and build, our provinces future prosperity.

Working within the Policy and Planning Branch, this position will assess and recommend actions that the Government of Alberta (GoA) can take to improve the ability to commercialize technology and grow our enterprises to be competitive, while stimulating investment opportunities and growth. In this role, the incumbent will link with other provincial, municipal and local communities and agencies to develop research, innovation, commercialization and economic diversification opportunities.

This position will also lead multiple projects with internal and external stakeholders to inform the GoA on conditions and trends that affect the industry and Alberta's economic opportunities for growth and enterprise economic diversification. The successful candidate will use their knowledge of economics, enterprise level analysis and firm level decision making to drive research, innovation and commercialization for a broad range of diversifying industries.

As the successful candidate, you will provide expertise and advice in the areas of statistics, economics, business finance, evaluation and/or econometrics in order to enhance Alberta's economic diversification. You will also provide business intelligence and reports to show the big picture and increase the understanding of the dynamics in Alberta's technology and industry development.

Our successful candidate would be someone who can demonstrate the following competencies:

Systems Thinking: you will demonstrate your systems thinking abilities by seeing the broad impact of your decisions. You will possess the capacity to assess impacts on enterprises, fiscal policy, technology and the economic, environmental and social prosperity.

Build Collaborative Environments: you will lead, mentor and coach project teams and collaborate with division staff, as well as with cross-division and cross-department teams. In doing this you will demonstrate your team building and interpersonal skills.

Drive for Results: the projects you are involved with are diverse, sensitive and complex. The options and solutions you provide need to align with the GoA priorities and the department's Business Plan, while also reflecting the needs of various stakeholder groups. Your ability to plan for results and focus on outcomes will enable you to achieve your desired results.

Qualifications: A Master's degree in a related field (business, economics, or econometrics) with four years progressively responsible experience is required. Experience with business analysis, research methodology, and applied policy/program analysis is also required. Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with one or more of the following: business/economics, analysis, economic modelling methods and/or innovation and commercialization dynamics. Equivalencies will be considered.
