Senior Economist

For over twenty years, DevTech's Economic Analysis and Data Services (EADS) project has supported the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) with cutting edge data sciences support and economic analysis. The project, with a renewal date of August 2017, produces the U.S. Government official foreign aid data for annual reporting to the U.S. Congress and OECD, delivers foreign aid and international country level economic and social data and data analysis to USAID staff, and provides general support to USAID on development data and data analysis. EADS also maintains a portfolio of public websites for USAID in the areas of trade capacity building, U.S. foreign assistance flows, microenterprise and microfinance, and economic and social development (https://eads.usaid.gov/)

The Senior Economist manages EADS databases using SAS software, writes analyses using international development data, and responds to requests for data, analysis, and online products from USAID. The Senior Economist is expected to lead teams on analytical tasks while capacitating other members of the team on Economic and statistical analysis. The Senior Economist is also expected to contribute to different aspects of the project, as needed, including data processing, training and small management tasks. The Senior Economist reports to the EADS Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Development data analysis, including statistical analysis and compelling data visualizations, and development of analytical reports tailored to USAID needs;
In collaboration with the EADS web development team, develop online applications for data analysis for use by USAID staff and the public;
Maintain databases of economic and social indicators for use by USAID staff
Communicate analysis to a variety of USAID staff;
Provide USAID staff with data analysis training

Qualifications

Education: Master's Degree in Economics, Ph.D. preferred

Experience: Four years of related experience in economics or quantitative analysis. Evidence of past publications would be a plus.

Skills and Capabilities: Strong background in econometrics. Sectoral expertise in one or more of several economic fields relevant to USAID work, such as economic growth, poverty, trade, international development finance and aid effectiveness. Knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, Stata and R. Must have interest in database management and strong understanding of relational database principles. Prior knowledge of database management software such as MySQL or Oracle is preferred. Highly motivated and responsible self-starter. Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills, including with technical audiences. Strong leadership and solid teamwork.

Languages: English; knowledge of a second language is desirable but not required.
