Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

As energy is an essential universal service, our work touches on virtually every household and business in Great Britain making this an incredibly rewarding professional opportunity. We are at the forefront of driving change and improvement in the industry, shaping a new energy system that is low carbon, more decentralised, smart and flexible.

As a Senior Economist in our Market Intelligence and Oversight team you'll play a central role in ensuring that the wholesale energy market works in the best interests of consumers. This will involve analysis of the market for any regulation breaches, investigating and taking appropriate action as required, and engaging with and educating market participants. We expect that you'll have a degree in Economics, or be able to demonstrate equivalent expertise through your professional experience. Excellent analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative) are vital, and you should have practical experience of applying economic concepts to decision-making, including policy appraisal and evaluation. You should be confident in your ability to present findings and recommendations in person and in written policy papers. It's important that you can work successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders and that you can bring complex subject matter to life for different audiences. You'll also need highly developed project management skills and be confident working across organisations, co-ordinating resources to deliver agreed outcomes.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:
Up to 30 days' annual leave
Excellent training and development opportunities
The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
