Senior Economist

We are looking for a Senior Economist or Social Scientist with deep knowledge and broad experience in statistics and policy-oriented analysis of data. S/he will be responsible for undertaking and overseeing research on the measurement of well-being and social progress conducted by the OECD Statistics Directorate as a follow-up to the report of the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress (the 'Stiglitz Commission'). 

The selected candidate will supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of a team of around five staff and liaise with researchers and analysts belonging to national and international institutions and other OECD Directorates working on related issues. S/he will also be involved in the organisation of various events in the context of the Global Project on the 'measurement of progress of societies' launched by the OECD in collaboration with several other international organisations. S/he will work under the supervision of a Head of Division and/or the Counsellor to the Director.

Job Duties

1. Research and analysis

• Co-ordinate and actively contribute to a research programme on the measurement of various aspects of societal well-being and progress (including the ways those measures can be used by policy-makers and social stakeholders) and to initiatives on measuring progress in practice. This work will be carried out in collaboration with other OECD experts and with researchers working in national and international organisations. 
• Be responsible for a new publication providing analysis and indicators on various aspects of people well-being and societal progress. Identify synergies and avoid overlaps with existing OECD publication projects. Plan, draft and edit various working papers and publications on the issue of measuring progress.
• Conduct comparative analyses of experiences on the measurement of societal progress, deriving lessons and identifying critical issues, suitable methods and good practices in order to build knowledge on how indicators on well-being and progress can be developed, displayed, disseminated and used by all sectors of society.
• Provide leadership in the development of quantitative methods and indicators conducive to implementing new approaches towards measuring material well-being, quality of life and sustainability.
