Job Function
Lead development of economic models, analysis and key reports to inform business decision.
Analysis and research of factors affecting the demand and supply side of the electricity market including e.g. customer price elasticities and impact of macroeconomic variables.
Analysis of capital and operational productivity trends in the electricity sector.
Analysis of regulatory cost of capital
Analysis of customer usage patterns.
Analysis of tariff design, pricing, contract design and performance.
Cost-benefit analysis of a range of projects.
Conduct other studies as directed.
Keep updated with international energy market developments and trends e.g. technological developments, regulatory and policy developments.
Liaise extensively with internal business units and external stakeholders

Key qualifications
Masters or PhD in Economics
Focus on applied economics

Skills
Excellent analytical skills and excellent ability to apply economic principles to address complex issues.
Excellent research skills.
Ability to analyze large data sets, using statistical and/or econometric modelling techniques.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Evidence of ability to write clearly and concisely to communicate complex issues.
Excellent English ability (written and spoken)
Demonstrated ability to work productively as part of a team.

Experience

For PhD candidates, minimum 3 years’ experience in applied economic analysis preferably in a utility environment.
For Master’s candidates, minimum 5 years’ experience in applied economic analysis preferably in a utility environment.
Demonstrated experience in analyzing large datasets using econometric, statistical and mathematical techniques.
Demonstrated ability to produce robust economic analysis to inform business decision and strategy.
Demonstrated Experience with economic cost-benefit analysis is required.
Understanding of the economic and business fundamentals of electric and/or public utilities desirable.
Experience with cost allocation methodologies for electric utilities is highly desirable.
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, particularly an environment with engineers and accountants.
