Job Description
Based within the economics and regulatory team within the thermal and renewable division of the power unit, the senior consultant will be expected to manage and contribute to projects involving a range of economic, regulatory and policy issues on energy and environmental matters in a global arena. The role may also involve taking responsibly for business development initiatives and project proposals. The work will involve both quantitative (using simple model, econometrics and statistics) and qualitative analysis and a considerable amount of report and proposal writing.

The role involves working potentially on multiple projects / proposals, both within teams and on lone basis. Most likely the work will involve working on policy, regulatory and market / economic analysis issues relating to the electricity sector and most typically the generation sector. The work is often of a techno-economic nature and hence there is a requirement to familiarise oneself with technical matters.

There will be a requirement to travel for business (often beyond Europe) on an occasional basis, typically for short periods.

The immediate line manager will be the chief economist.

Candidate Specification
Masters in economics (or related field) and experience in economics or closely related discipline in the area of energy markets or policy. Experience of working for government and regulatory bodies, international agencies and banks would be valuable as would experience of working as a consultant and experience of working on international assignments.

Also requires a strong interest in energy policy and regulatory issues and willingness to learn about technologies, system operations and also key contracting arrangements. An understanding of basic spreadsheet modelling and statistical techniques. Good report writing and public presentation skills. A willingness to travel internationally for short periods. A keen interest in contributing to business development including writing proposals and making occasional pitches.
