Position Description
The Economic Service Center is a newly created, specialized unit, designed to meet the growing demand on CS for economics' projects. The Service Center will be tasked with investigating how best to develop and market economic analysis, data and tools to public and private sector clients. This unit will partner with other transportation leaders to develop and apply objective analytical methods to help inform transportation planning, policy and management decisions.

The Senior Freight Transportation Economist will collaborate with CS leadership in the development of a newly created Economic Service Center. S/he will join an established and rapidly growing team of planners, economists, and engineers recognized for innovative work in transportation planning, economics, and policy. This position will entail providing strategic economic expertise in studies related to freight economics and economic development, transportation policy, financial analysis, and other related areas; potentially including asset management and climate change adaptation. S/he will perform data collection, spreadsheet analyses, run economic simulation models, conduct statistical analysis.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with enthusiasm for applied economics techniques and be able to communicate recommendations persuasively. S/he will demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams within the organization and strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and successfully influence a wide range of stakeholders.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in Economics or related field, and a minimum of 10 years applied project experience and conducting economic analyses (optimally in transportation planning) within a consulting environment. Experience with statistical analysis packages, regional economic databases, freight and logistics planning applications econometric and input/output models is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Economics or related field is preferred. S/he should have strong analytic, writing, and communication skills. Experience with travel demand forecasting models, freight/commodity flow databases and geographic information systems (GIS) and project management experience are a plus.
