
Senior Health Economist

Altarum Institute is seeking a Senior Health Economist with experience in health care organization and payment systems to direct and work with other senior level staff on evaluation and consulting projects and to lead research projects in health policy and health services issues. This position is based in our Alexandria, VA office. The Senior Health Economist will primarily concentrate on consulting activities while being asked to develop and lead initiatives for large and small programs (federal/state) using both quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods. Experience with HHS programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, or with private integrated delivery systems and claims data is strongly preferred.
The position is located in the newly forming Center for Policy and Research Translation (CPRT), with a focus on Care Systems and Payment Redesign, in the Systems Research and Initiatives Group of Altarum Institute. The candidate will work closely with the Director to help build CPRT and will be encouraged to develop a practice area in a related area with a focus on CMS, CDC, AHRQ and/or ASPE. Responsibilities:
As Senior Health Economist, you will be responsible for:
• Designing and implementing quantitative and qualitative research projects from conception/proposal through completion for a range of government clients
• Conducting data analysis, including descriptive statistics and advanced statistical applications
• Managing client relationships
• Coaching and Mentoring mid-level staff including day-to-day project supervision
• Producing reports, manuscripts, and presentations in collaboration with project team
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
• MS degree with focus in one of the following: health economics, health services research, systems research, applied sociology, social psychology, epidemiology, public health, public policy, or related field of social science with applied research focus. PhD degree is preferred.
• Experience with health care financing and delivery systems.
• Strong quantitative skills, experience with SAS or SPSS
• Proven experience with guiding teams and developing organizational direction
• Intimate knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid
• Minimum of 5 years of experience beyond doctorate; more senior candidates also encouraged to apply
• Exemplary organizational, verbal and written communication skills with a proven history in successful grant writing
• Ability to plan, organize and prioritize staff working with multiple projects.
• Must be a creative leader with excellent mentoring skills
