Role context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
· AMG's vision is to be the leading asset manager for HSBC's clients. That vision was endorsed by the Group Management Board in 2010, when it approved AMG's strategy (or 'Medium Term Outlook', MTO). The MTO envisages AMG will develop two particular areas of growth;
· Emerging markets. AMG is already one of the world's largest emerging market global asset management companies, with a distinctive strength in both domestic and cross-border capabilities; and
· Wealth management. AMG is part of Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM), with whom we work closely to provide a range of managed solutions that meet the needs of our retail customers to manage and grow their wealth.
· Since the MTO was approved, AMG's Front Office has worked hard to globalize its investment management teams by asset class (equities, fixed income, multi asset, liquidity and property) and to develop and implement consistent investment processes across each of those asset classes and communicate these, including to RBWM. Significant progress has been made, but much work remains to be done.
· The Senior Macro/Investment Strategist will assist in this ongoing process of globalization and communication, as well as enhance the quality of internal investment analysis and building the "internal intellectual knowledge capital" of HSBC AMG.

Management of risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)

· Checking for accuracy and consistency in publications e.g. self-complying dailies and weeklies
· Building the internal "intellectual knowledge capital" of HSBC AMG..

Observation of internal controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
· As described above, amongst other things the Senior Macro/Investment Strategist will be responsible for:
· Ensure effective processes and governance in the Macro & Asset Strategy team on a daily basis such as self-complying dailies and weeklies;
· Ensuring consistency in expressed investment views and rigour in internal analysis documents with attention to detail
