Role Overview

OCE consists of a team of around 45 economists and analysts. It contributes to the operational, policy and strategy work of the Bank and provides intellectual leadership on economic and financial aspects of transition in the region. Within OCE, the Research Pillar is responsible for research on critical economic issues relevant to the transition region and EBRD operations, macroeconomic analysis in support of OCE's country work, and relations with academia. It also leads the design and implementation of large-scale surveys (such as the BEEPS, BEPS, and LiTS); randomised impact studies; and the production of most major external publications produced by the OCE, including the annual Transition Report.
The Senior Research Analyst in the Research Pillar reports to the Director of Research. They contribute to the preparation of various research products under the supervision of Senior or Lead Economists, such as parts of the annual Transition Report, other special OCE publications, and working papers. The Senior Research Analyst manages one or more large-scale surveys (such as BEEPS or LiTS) and/or randomized impact assessments. This role will also be responsible for providing guidance to junior Research Analysts.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

Assist with the organization and day-to-day management of one of the key surveys of OCE, either the BEEPS, BEPS, or LiTS;
Assist with the design and implementation of randomised impact studies under the guidance and supervision of Research Pillar economist(s);
Contribute to the generation of key products of the pillar, for example chapters in the Transition Report or working papers;
Performing ad hoc assignments, including programming, literature reviews on specific topics, statistical analysis, and fielding data requests and inquires for the BEEPS, BEPS, and LiTS surveys;
Key trainer/manager/mentor of Research Pillar analysts and interns

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

At least a Master's degree in economics or a related field
Experience in managing large micro-level datasets
Knowledge of or/and experience with randomised impact studies
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including a strong knowledge of Stata
Ability and experience to mentor and train junior staff
Familiarity with the EBRD region of operations and work or study experience in the region is helpful
Knowledge of one or more languages of the region is an advantage.
