The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) seeks a Senior Research Officer who will play a leadership role within the team working on multidimensional poverty measures.

The postholder will supervise research assistants and research officers and contribute as a lead researcher to the multidimensional poverty measurement and analyses research of OPHI by: writing publishable academic papers on key methodological and/or empirical issues; collaborating in analysis of implemented multidimensional poverty indices; mentoring postdoctoral researchers; participating in collaborative work; and being responsible for their own research project within a discrete area of a wider research programme. The postholder will also participate in fundraising and core OPHI activities, such as: research workshops; seminars; public events; presentations; research communications, and training activities; and teaching on courses at the OPHI summer school, in ODID and the Department of Economics as appropriate.

Required qualifications include: a doctorate in economics with theoretical and empirical background in multidimensional poverty measurement; relevant research experience in application of multidimensional poverty measurement methodologies particularly in South Asia and a strong publication record in this field; the ability to lead training activities and public presentations and provide technical consultations; experience of effectively leading a team; and ability to raise research funds through grant applications. The post requires approximately 60 days overseas travel a year and is to start as soon as possible. The line manager is the Director of OPHI, Dr Sabina Alkire.
