Statistics Coordinator

Job Summary
As our Economic Analyst you will support the API statistics program by coordinating recurring and one-time statistical surveys, analyzing statistical data with software tools, and providing written analyses of petroleum supply/demand for internal needs and for publication. You will also provide expertise to staff across API, member company representatives, and others on statistical and supply/demand issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• You will coordinate the production of the Weekly Statistical Bulletin (reports total US and regional data relating to refinery operation and the production, imports, and inventories of the five major petroleum products) ensuring that all steps have been handled properly by all team members and that published data meets standards of objectivity and reliability.
• Analyze survey methodology and seek ways to improve accuracy and ensure effectiveness and reliability of processes.
• Produce other recurring and ad hoc petroleum supply/demand written analyses and statistical reports, including providing analyses using statistical quantitative techniques to improve the estimates, identifying questionable data, comparing API data with other data sources, and tracking response rates.
• Assist in the production of the Monthly Statistical Report, analyzing various data sources, using statistical techniques to explain monthly supply/demand developments and providing written analysis for publication.
• Develop new and marketable products and reports with potential to provide value to users and to add revenues. Reach out to the trading community and other potential customers to increase sales of our current products.
• Produce various weekly, daily, and other reports as needed, including maintaining resources with current information and providing analytical insight to put it into historical context.
• Contribute to the development of a Statistics Program Procedures Manual, documenting processes and procedures used in the collection, management, and distribution of data.
• Work with staff across API, member company representatives, and others to provide statistical and supply/demand data.
 
Qualification Requirements
Masters preferred in economics or other quantitative field or equivalent experience. 1+ years experience in statistical issues. Superior writing skills for internal analyses and for publication. Excellent skills with Word, Excel, Microsoft Access, and familiarity with SAS, R, Python, or other similar software tools. Familiarity with petroleum industry and program management a plus. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work under time pressure, and a team orientation are essential.
