Business Intelligence is a specialized, centralized, and cross functional team that collaborates with finance, business development, product / engineering, operations, and marketing to help drive decision-making at Hyperloop One. The team leads ambitious projects, interacts regularly with our leadership team, and develops key strategic frameworks for Hyperloop One's freight and passenger businesses. Our responsibilities include core business strategy and analysis, project financial modeling and analysis, and senior executive presentations. As a member of our team, you will serve as an interface between leadership, engineering and business strategy, enabling Hyperloop One's decision making processes and playing a critical role in shaping the future of transport.
The Transportation Economist will interface with employees at all levels and perform a variety of business functions, including demand forecasting, predictive analytics, and economic modeling to support transportation project evaluation tasks and business development activities.
We are looking for a highly motivated, independent candidate to support company initiatives and identify business risks and opportunities.
Responsibilities:
Build forecasting tools to model demand for Hyperloop One system, leveraging best practices in academia and industry
Research specific markets – demand, ongoing and prospective transportation and construction projects, and costs in specific regions – to provide data for forecasting tools and business development team
Leverage knowledge of industry to provide insights into targeted markets, geographies, governments
Effectively, concisely, and accurately summarize findings
Apply findings to financial modeling efforts, thoroughly document assumptions, interpret outputs, and make recommendations
Requirements:
BS in economics, or math, or statistics
MS or PhD in in economics, or math, or statistics preferred or equivalent experience
5+ years of transportation demand forecasting for both passenger and freight movement
Experience with modeling air traffic and/or high speed rail preferred
Experience with container shipping preferred
Managing competing priorities/projects
Critical thinking and creative problem solving
Strong analytical abilities and proficiency with relevant software packages and databases
Research and analyze findings – efficiently and accurately
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
