Overview

Our client is a sell-side bank based in London with a focused Euro-Area Economics & Macro Strategy team. The successful candidate will provide detailed economic forecasts and analysis for the Euro Area, interacting with clients to discuss the economic outlook, briefing sales and traders on economic themes/prospects and writing pieces about macroeconomic, political and financial themes shaping the outlook for the European economies. They will get the real opportunity of seeing assessments translate through to their market implications.

Key responsibilities:

A significant amount of forecasting tools are already in existence and the successful candidate is expected to use, maintain and advance the current tool kit in addition to the regular demands of the job.
Act as the lead Economist for the Northern Eurozone economies and provide inputs to Euro-Area economics in general.
Work with others on broader cross-country and cross-team research.
Contribute to the day-to-day running of the team.
Engage proactively with clients both externally and internally.

You will have:

A post-graduate degree in an Economics discipline;
Financial modelling and analytical skills.
4-8 years experience as a macroeconomist covering at least one large European country.
Experience in economic modelling and the ability to read and understand econometric tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

You will be:

Fluent in English and ideally another European language (Ideally German or French).
Able to demonstrate not just a solid understanding, but also creative, original views regarding the economy you have experience in.
Able to present complex analysis in a simple and appealing way.
Strongly driven to achieve in a highly competitive field.
Open and receptive to the views of others.
A strong team player able to work with others.

The role will be based in London and involve regular European travel.
