The main objective of the Twentieth Annual Conference is to encourage debate on important economic issues for the region through the active and joint participation of academics, policy-makers, officers from international organizations and government, private sector economists, and students. Additionally, the conference aims to attract young researchers, students and economists from less-developed countries in the region to be involved in different research networks and to become LACEA members, thus contributing to research and the development of their economies.

Specifically, the purpose of the conference in Bolivia is firstly to position rigorous research in economics as an essential tool for efficient and safe decision-making for sustainable economic development and economic policy. Secondly, it seeks to bring together Bolivian economists distributed worldwide with policy makers so that they can develop lines of research that contribute to the economic and social development of Bolivia.
