This is an exciting opportunity to operate at the centre of the department and deliver an interesting and complex programme of analytical work resulting from the UK's referendum vote to leave the European Union (EU). We are recruiting for a total of eight analytical roles, across a range of teams.

Four posts sit within the newly-expanded EU and International Analysis Team which provides analytical support to both the Europe Directorate (which is leading BEIS work on EU Exit Negotiations) and the EU Exit and International Directorate (which is leading the department's work on Domestic Consequences from EU exit, Stakeholder Engagement and International Trade).

Three posts sit within the Sectors Analysis Team, which provides analytical support to the sector policy directorates in BEIS. The team works on industry sector analysis running from energy intensive industries to cars, from construction to aerospace and from retail to professional and business services. The team is leading thinking about what EU exit, international trade and the UK's industrial strategy mean for UK businesses and industry.

Both of these multi-disciplinary teams are responsible for leading BEIS's analytical work on the opportunities and impacts of UK exit from the European Union and in parallel, the business impacts of new trade deals with other countries. This will involve working closely with other government departments (OGDs) – most notably the Departments for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) and International Trade (DIT), as well as HM Treasury and other departments with a sectoral focus such as the Department for Digital, Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS), the Department for Transport (DfT) and Defra – as well as with ministers and senior officials.

One post sits within the Office for Life Sciences (OLS), in which BEIS and the Department of Health (DH) have brought together their respective functions around life sciences. OLS leads the Government's drive to continue to make the UK the destination of choice for life sciences research and investment, exploiting the UK's science base and our unique NHS to improve patient outcomes and contribute to economic growth. OLS professionally and positively supports Ministers in both DH and BEIS and works closely with the DIT to deliver the Government's objectives for life sciences policy.

For all posts there will also be extensive opportunities to engage a broad range of external stakeholders, including businesses, trade associations, think tanks and academic institutes. Experience of working on trade and international policy analysis is welcome but is not a prerequisite and we strongly encourage analysts from all professions – operational research, social research, statistics, economics – to apply for these roles. We are highly agile and flexible teams with the possibility to tailor posts around individuals' skills and interests, while taking into account the context of meeting the varied analytical requirements of the policy teams that we support.

Key responsibilities across all posts will include:
Providing cross cutting and credible analytical advice in collaboration with policy colleagues to Ministers on the economic impacts of different options around the UK's relationship with the European Union and how that will impact sectors and UK business.
Building strong and effective working relationships with stakeholders within BEIS and across Whitehall, and externally, for example analysts in academia, business organisations and think tanks.
Tracking, reviewing, synthesising and communicating external literature and opinions related to Single Market/EU exit economics and potential options for domestic responses.
Coordinate research and analysis with OGDs and provide analytical support to inform policy discussions.
