Purpose and Main Duties

This is an exciting opportunity to join our teaching team on our BSc and MSc programmes in Finance and Economics.

We are currently looking for 2 part-time fixed term Associate Lecturers to teach the following modules beginning October 2017
BSc Quantitative Techniques in Applied Economics
BSc Principles of Finance
MSc Corporate Finance
Credit Risk Management
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the module, including setting and marking examinations. You will be expected to follow existing course outlines. You will deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required.

Each of these modules meets for three hours once a week in the evenings from 6 - 9 pm. Courses run in Autumn and Spring terms and a revision lecture in the Summer Term. The successful candidate will teach all or some parts of these modules.

Candidate Requirements

The requirements for selection are listed below:
An MSc in Finance or Economics, or equivalent qualification, with specific subject knowledge of the material covered in the module you wish to teach (although your research interests need not necessarily be in these areas). For MSc level courses, a PhD in Finance is highly desirable.
Relevant teaching experience, ideally working with adult students within the FE/HE sector.
A good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and the ability to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.
Experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods.
Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts.
A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, email, LaTeX and experience of/ willingness to use Moodle (a virtual leaning environment).
Able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.
Willing to engage in reflective practice.

Salary: Grade 7 of the College's London Pay Scale which is starting rate £57.55 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay) for contact hours worked.
