The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is seeking an Associate Regional Economist in the Regional Economics Department. The Associate Regional Economist requires extensive knowledge and analysis of relevant regional economic data, along with economic conditions and developments across the Fifth District. The position requires a firm grasp of basic economic theory, as well as demonstrated ability to analyze economic information and to write clearly, concisely, and under tight deadlines. The position is located in Richmond, VA.

Specific Job Responsibilities (includes but are not limited to the following):
Research and Analysis
• Analyze regional economic trends to develop content and write articles for Research publications and the Bank's public website.
• Survey contacts (via phone, email, survey tools, etc.) to understand current business conditions and provide written analysis for external and internal reports (such as the Beige Book report).
• Participate in the administration and reporting of the monthly and quarterly surveys of regional business leaders.
• Manage and produce external and internal publications that could include collecting or compiling data, reporting developments in the data, and analyzing economic conditions across the Fifth District.
• Research current and emerging trends and provide in-depth analysis of current economic conditions affecting the Fifth District
• Participate in qualitative and quantitative data gathering, such as attending roundtables of local business people and finding, compiling, and using new sources of data.
Data Development and Data Management:
• Work with team members to manage and update internally- and externally-developed data using statistical programs and Excel
• Explore new sources of data and develop/maintain relationships with state and local data providers and other stakeholders

***The market range is $72,267 - $112,918, annually.
***The hiring range is $72,267 – $90,334, annually.
***Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual's knowledge, skills and experience as defined in the job qualifications/experience.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree and master's degree in economics or related field.
• 1 to 2 years of experience writing about economic issues for a lay audience.
• Solid background in economics and a comprehensive knowledge of U.S. and regional economic conditions
• Ability to write clearly and concisely about economic topics
• Ability to develop economic research topics independently
• Ability to analyze economic information
• Ability to meet firm deadlines, make revisions to articles, and to pay close attention to detail during the fact-checking and proofreading processes
• Ability to work collaboratively on projects.
• Knowledge of economic information, including types and sources of data
• Knowledge of statistical software (Stata, SAS, or similar)
• Knowledge of standard office software programs, such as Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of mapping/GIS software a plus.
• Knowledge of data visualization tools a plus.
