Consultant/Junior Economist/Planner

Job Description:

We are seeking an individual to play a key role in the team helping deliver work.
The remit of the Economics and Property team is to lead on work in the field of property, planning and economics, covering:
Preparing and influencing economic, planning, property, regeneration, and infrastructure development strategy, policy and research at national, sub-regional and local levels.
Establishing the economic, financial and business cases in favour of projects and programmes, including major proposals and estate/property initiatives.
Carrying out social and economic impact assessments, for example as part of the formal EIA process.
Developing new business opportunities in the field of economic consultancy as opportunities arise.
The team draws upon and works with other teams in Savills, for example its remit includes working with the Savills Research team to jointly develop areas of research that will raise the profile of the company.

The role of the junior/consultant economist/planner is to:
Work with others on marketing and bids to secure work.
Work with colleagues in the delivery of projects.
Build up expertise in agreed areas of work.

Key Responsibilities:

Help prepare competitive proposals.
Take responsibility for elements of projects from the earliest stages through to completion.
Undertake research and analysis.
Help develop creative and original solutions to satisfy all parties.
Contribute to writing complex reports, interpreting data and making clear and relevant recommendations.
Contribute to and take part in presentations at meetings.
Communicate and negotiate effectively with clients and colleagues.
Maintain an awareness of market conditions and government policies.
Keep informed about documents relating to relevant policy and practice.
Attends external events and identify business opportunities.

Knowledge of micro-economics principles and concepts, feasibility studies and business plans, and ability to learn how to apply this knowledge to the team's areas of work.
Knowledge of the UK planning system.
Numerical and analytic skills, preferably including modelling expertise (usual in Excel). An ability to carry out property appraisals is helpful.
An awareness of the consultancy world and a good fit with consultancy culture (essential).
A degree in town planning, geography, property surveying, economics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience (essential).
Membership/working towards membership of an appropriate professional institution such as the RTPI and/or RICS (desirable).
