Job Description

Louis Berger is seeking a Demographer/Economist for a full-time position at a major transportation planning agency in New York City. The position would involve the following work activities:

Maintenance and periodic updates to a spreadsheet-based economic-demographic forecast model, and a database of proposed land development projects.
Research on local, state, and national trends in demographics, economics, employment, journey-to-work, and land use, and household formation.
Preparation of maps and data analysis using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Preparation of reports on population and employment forecasts for the public review process, participating in public review meetings, and preparing written reply to the public comments.
Preparation of publications such as: Regional Demographic Statistical Report, County, Regional Data Profiles, and Project Development Inventory.
Quick response to stakeholder agency and public queries on forecasts, publications, and data; participation in and preparation of minutes of interagency working group meetings.
Regular coordination with transportation planners and travel demand modelers within the agency and among stakeholders to provide data and summarize findings

Required Experience

The successful candidate will have the following:

Educational background or work experience in demographic analysis, regional economics, and/or urban planning.
Technical proficiency in research and analysis of population and employment data from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and state and local agencies.
Demonstrated expertise in analysis and presentation of data with GIS (e.g., ArcView).
Experience with development and maintenance of databases and spreadsheets (e.g., Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel); familiarity with developer tools for information management (SQL, Python) a plus.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Attained at least a Master's degree in urban and regional planning or the social sciences.
