Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the ECOSOC and Interorganizational Cooperation Branch, Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination (OESC) provides substantive support and promotes consensus in the United Nations Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly. Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Chief of the ECOSOC and Interorganizational Cooperation Branch, Office for ECOSOC Support and Coordination, DESA, the Economic Affairs Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

- Monitors and interprets relevant resolutions, mandates and decisions emanating from the General Assembly and ECOSOC into action;
- Undertakes research on selected issues in sustainable development, including on multistakeholder partnerships and their contribution to advancing the 2030 Agenda;
- Assists the Economic and Social Council in its role of promoting multi-stakeholder partnerships and leads in the substantive servicing of the ECOSOC Partnership Forum;
- Supports the Economic and Social Council in its oversight role over its Functional Commissions and other subsidiary bodies by monitoring and reporting on the results of their work in order to bring about harmonization of the work programmes and agendas;
- Formulates policy guidance for the consideration of the Economic and Social Council relating to sustainable development strategies, policies and measures;
- Provides substantive support on sustainable development issues to the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and its subsidiary bodies;
- Attends international, regional and other meetings to hold discussion with representatives of other institutions;
- Organizes panels and expert group meetings on development issues for the General Assembly and ECOSOC;
- Prepares speeches and inputs for presentation by senior staff;
- Performs other related duties as required including a variety of administrative tasks for the ECOSOC and Interorganizational Cooperation Branch.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in economics, social sciences, international relations or related fields is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in economic research and analysis, policy formulation, application of economic principles in development programmes or related area is required. Experience in providing substantive servicing of inter-governmental meetings and related bodies is required. Experience in planning and organization of thematic and expert group meetings is required. Experience with UN-related multistakeholder partnerships is desirable. Experience in drafting reports for intergovernmental and interagency bodies on economic, social and development issues is desirable. Work experience in a Specialized Agency, Fund, Programme or UN coordination bodies is desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
