Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provides the Marketing division and other NS departments economic, industry, statistical and forecast information for new business development, capital investment decisions, and determination of business strategy. Analyzes data from many sources and develops findings into presentations, reports, forecasts, and studies to provide management with actionable business intelligence.

Principal Duties:

Prepares research studies to grow NS business and to validate areas of broader business strategy and focus as determined by marketing leadership. Work includes researching data sources, analyzing and interpreting relevant data, and developing recommendations for specific action.
Performs analysis of the business, competitive, and domestic and international economic climates and the potential effects these climates have on the business of Norfolk Southern.
Uses statistical methods and tools to develop the macro-economic forecast models used by marketing in the development of the corporate demand forecast. Also, prepares statistical forecasts used for long-term infrastructure planning and other special projects.
Assists assigned marketing team(s) in the application and interpretation of economic and other forward-looking information to support the development of the corporate forecast; and provides analyses and data used to review and validate the result.
Creates computer-based analytic tools including mapping programs, databases, websites, and dashboards to provide business intelligence to a wide variety of users. Assists departments in the application and interpretation of statistical and analytic methods to address key business issues.
Prepares reports, speeches, data, and other information for the Marketing division that assess NS' current performance, competitor actions, and economic and business events.
Supports assigned commercial marketing group(s) in the use of NS' corporate forecasting system.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level: 3-5 years Preferred Level: 1-2 years
