Economics Adviser
Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)
London or Edinburgh - United Kingdom
S: £51,702 – £59,351
Location: London or Edinburgh
Salary: £51,702 – £59,351
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is one of the world's top competition and consumer agencies. With markets changing fast we are currently undergoing rapid business expansion, presenting new opportunities for skilled Economic Advisers. This is an exciting time to join us.
Economics is at the heart of everything we do; we tackle high-profile cases, analyse potential harm to competition, champion the consumer and offer intellectual leadership. Here, you will join a strong international team of economists, working in a collaborative, collegiate atmosphere to manage a diverse case load. Working flexibly across the full range of our projects, including investigations into mergers and markets, competition and consumer enforcement cases, and regulatory appeals, you will have opportunities to contribute to the development of the CMA's economics capability and intellectual development. Recent cases in which economists play a critical role include the Sainsbury's/Asda merger inquiry or the consumer protection investigation into online hotel booking platforms.
You will be the lead economist on some cases, and lead on a particular area of analysis in more complex cases. You will be responsible for carrying out and/or supervising economic analysis relevant to the project, including designing economic analyses of competition in markets, presenting results and providing economic advice to colleagues and decision makers across different professions.
It's an environment with autonomy, responsibility and direct access to key decision makers. We are looking for high calibre economists with practical work experience in the economic analysis of markets or applied microeconomics, and a good understanding of industrial organisation and competition economics. The ability to write clearly and to present to non-technical audiences in a way that engages, informs and drives decision-making, is essential.
If you're looking for a role that combines intellectual challenge with excellent opportunities for career development, we'd like to hear from you.
All CMA staff enjoy generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days' leave (increasing to 30 over five years), favourable consideration of flexible working, and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme and our employee assistance programme. We are looking for applicants to be based either in our London or Edinburgh offices. CMA staff in both offices work together in an integrated way across the full range of projects.
