Economics Research Assistant, Open Source Policy Center

The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research is seeking a full-time research assistant to work with the Open Source Policy Center, a center devoted to making policy analysis more accessible, collaborative, and transparent by developing open source economic models like tax-calculator and web applications like TaxBrain to make those models widely accessible.

New research assistants will begin in summer 2016.The research assistant will join an open source community of economists, computer scientists, and be responsible for:

1) data management and analysis
2) contributing to scholarly papers, articles, and op-eds
3) writing literature reviews and background reports
4) contributing code, documentation, and user guides for open source economic models
5) assisting in planning and executing events to develop the community of contributors and users of the open source modeling suite.

Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in economics and public policy as well as experience with economic methodologies, analyzing data, and knowledge of programming—preferably Python. A strong math/statistics background is required, and coursework in linear algebra, multi-variable calculus, and econometrics is strongly preferred.

Above all, strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, are required for success in an open source community. 2016 graduates are eligible to apply.
