Economist - Treasury Committee

The Role
The Treasury Committee is responsible for scrutinising the policy, administration and expenditure of the Treasury and its associated bodies. Economists form part of a small committee team, working on a range of inquiries within the Committee's subject area to provide advice to the Committee and support the scrutiny of government. This includes organising evidence, preparing briefing material, writing draft Committee reports and conducting analysis, and providing support to the Committee Chair.

Economists are expected to be knowledgeable about the Committee's subject area and to be ready to share knowledge with, and work alongside, other parts of the House Service, while developing and maintaining relevant contacts and networks. Specialists may be asked to support other Committees on related subjects as the need arises.

The Person
· Up to date knowledge of UK economic and financial policy issues, including knowledge of key networks, organisations and individuals in the field.
· Sound research and analytical skills with substantial experience of gathering and validating data (qualitative and quantitative) from a range of sources, and distilling key issues.
· Demonstrable experience of communicating complex information to non-specialists both orally and in writing, and the ability to draft substantial pieces of work to strict deadlines and a high standard, with minimal supervision.
