The Economist will be a key subject matter expert and will facilitate program management and contribute to the development of high quality research products that are designed to influence targeted audiences.

The World Resources Institute's Food, Forest, and Water Program (FFW) is seeking a results-oriented individual with excellent analytical, program management, and communication skills for a full-time Economist position with the Global Restoration Initiative.

The Global Restoration initiative works to combine existing principles and techniques of development, conservation, and natural resource management. Restoring lost forests and degraded lands is essential for human livelihoods and well-being, long-term food security, climate stability, and biodiversity conservation. In order to counteract land degradation and to improve livelihoods, we need to restore forests and increase the productivity of existing agricultural land at the same time.

WRI and its partners are working in support of the Bonn Challenge, a ministerial challenge launched in 2011 with a goal to bring 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested lands under restoration by 2020. To date, 60+ million hectares have been pledged to the Bonn Challenge. The focus of this position will be to lead a new project within the initiative entitled the "New Restoration Economy" that will take an in-depth look at the business models, economic opportunities, value chains and financial mechanisms that would be required to transform today's landscape of disparate restoration projects into a large-scale regenerative industry.
