BASIC FUNCTION:
Following the direction of the Chief Economist, function as a key participant in the internal research process by providing diverse subject matter (i.e. Economics, Science, Asset Allocation, Equity Markets, and Fixed Income) knowledge and helping to facilitate the maintenance of our client portfolio(s) value proposition(s).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead efforts as assigned while actively performing research supporting and/or enhancing the stated WTIA investment strategy.
Research macroeconomic variables critical to the investment process.
Partner with assigned Marketing support to produce timely and representative materials that will be used as the basis for communications to internal and external clients.
Deliver internal and external presentations of the firm's macroeconomic views.
Support Chief Economist and other internal partners in production of Asset Management's economic and political commentaries, to include drafting proscribed communications.
Research identified forward looking innovative investment themes.
Collaborate within and outside of department to support understanding and use of group products.
Understand and adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company's Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Complete other related duties as assigned

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Direct and indirect impact on information provided to clients as well as the drafting of the communications themselves regarding the company's philosophy and strategy for portfolio management. Will collaborate with subject matter experts and marketing resources.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position may have supervisory responsibility for an Economist but essentially an individual contributor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Advanced degree (Economics, MBA, or related discipline) plus a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in the field. OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated knowledge of statistical software (such as Eviews, STATA, SPSS, RATS, Matlab, Mathematica, etc.)

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Advanced degree (Economics, Finance, or MBA)
Demonstrated experience in economic forecasting models including Vector Autoregression (VAR), Bayesian VAR, Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE).
Knowledge of international macroeceonomic data for developed and emerging market economies.
Knowledge of U.S. and international monetary policy.
Central bank experience
