The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future. The NYISO's Market Mitigation and Analysis department invites applications for a full-time Economist.

Economists are responsible for analyzing design, structure, bidding behavior, and pricing outcomes in New York's bulk electric power markets; ensuring market rules, market signals, and protective measures promote efficient and competitive markets. The successful candidate will leverage their economic expertise to analyze market trends and outcomes as they relate to forecasted system conditions, public policy, market participant behavior, system planning, and operations; will identify important or impending phenomena, frame their conclusions and detail their findings and recommendations to a variety of levels of management. The execution of their duties will find the Economist interacting with numerous firms and interested parties throughout the industry, both while performing research and analysis, and while presenting their findings or pursuing a resulting initiative.

Qualifications
Master's Degree in Economics or related technical field required; PhD. strongly desired. A minimum of five years related experience as an Economist or equivalent combination of graduate education, training, and experience, with proficiency in at least one programming language required. Energy, utility or ISO/RTO coursework or work experience is preferred.
