Description

The Research Department of the International Monetary Fund has an opening for an economist in its World Economic Outlook Division.

The candidate is expected to make major contributions to the World Economic Outlook (WEO) and related multilateral surveillance documents produced in the Division. The contributions will require conducting applied research on international policy issues in macroeconomic, macro-financial linkages, and structural areas, as well as analyzing economic developments and prospects (globally, regionally, and for individual countries). In some cases, the candidate will work independently, in other cases as a member of a team, while often supervising the work of Research Assistants/Information Management Assistants. Candidates might also be expected to play a leadership role, particularly in coordinating the work of groups of economists in the production of WEO chapters and other projects.

Qualifications

The candidate must be highly trained in macroeconomics, possess very strong analytical and technical skills, and have a substantial background in empirical, policy-oriented research. He/she must also possess the ability to write well and quickly as well as to communicate effectively with different audiences, a keen interest in economic policy issues and the surveillance work of the Fund, the ability to exercise independent judgment, good supervisory aptitude and experience, and leadership potential. Familiarity with the Fund's practices and policies would be an advantage.

• This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the Fund's new employment rules taking effect on May 1, 2015.
