The Research Department is currently recruiting for an Economist/Sr. Economist. The Economist/Sr. Economist contributes to the Bank's standing in the economics profession by conducting independent research, presenting research at professional meetings, and publishing research in professional journals and the department's Working Paper series. The Economist/Sr. Economist also briefs and counsels senior management and the Board of Directors on the national, regional and international economy, monetary policy, banking and financial regulation, and financial markets as needed. The position will be located in Richmond, VA.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Conducts independent and original research on topics in economics. These topics include but are not limited to the analysis of monetary policy and banking and financial markets. Publishes research in top-tier professional journals and the Working Paper Series.
Actively participates in the economics profession by presenting research at professional conferences and invited seminars, organizing conferences or sessions at conferences, and serving on editorial boards.
Prepares and delivers policy briefings and counsel to the Reserve Bank president and senior management on policy matters related to FOMC, banking and financial markets, and regional activities.
Contributes to the public education goals of the Bank through various activities including writing articles for publication in the Economic Quarterly, developing economic analysis content for the Bank's public website, preparing speech material for senior management, advising other Bank groups to support outreach on economic issues, and addressing community groups as needed.
At the Sr. Economist level, also advises staff economists on research, policy relevant research projects and policy briefing activities. Identifies special research topics that are policy relevant and plans/coordinates assigned work on those. Formulates research plans and monitors progress of project team.
Performs additional incidental duties as requested.

Qualifications/Experience:
Ph.D. in economics or closely related field is required for Economist and Sr. Economist levels.
Candidates that wish to be considered at the senior level should also have work experience in academia, government or industry, several publications in top-tier refereed finance or economics journals, and a well-established research agenda.
