Environmental Economist

NIWA is a dynamic research organisation whose purpose is to enhance the economic value and sustainable management of New Zealand's aquatic resources and environments, to provide understanding of climate and the atmosphere and increase resilience to weather and climate hazards to improve safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders.

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Economist to join our Socio-Economics Group to provide leadership and expertise in this area. You will be working with NIWA's social, cultural and biophysical scientists contributing to a broad range of NIWA work, both within New Zealand and in the Pacific Islands.

The position offers the opportunity to develop, contribute and integrate economic-related assessment in to many areas of NIWA's research and consulting activities particularly in the areas of water resource and water quality management, biosecurity, natural hazards and climate change. We are seeking someone with considerable (ideally over 10 years') experience with a range of environmental economics applications; an ability to secure research and commercial project funding; project management experience; and a publication track record. Knowledge and experience of the environmental, natural resource and economic sectors in New Zealand and the Pacific would be a distinct advantage.
