Housing Economist

WHO YOU ARE
You have a Master's degree or Ph.D. in economics, urban planning, public policy, or a related field
You have a genuine interest in the built environment and in social and economic issues that relate to it, such as the state of the housing and rental markets and their relationship to demographics, to the labor market and to people's well-being. Interest in mapping, urban geography or city planning is a plus
You have have excellent analytical skills, including experience working with statistical packages or languages (e.g. Stata, SAS, Python, R)
You are excited about new challenges and willing to dive into the weeds of economic analysis and policy issues
You can communicate complex ideas effectively, verbally and in writing
You are detail-oriented and have excellent project management skills

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Produce compelling public-facing research on the topics related to the residential rental market, using Apartment List's proprietary rent data as well as other relevant data sources, in order to cement our position as thought leaders in the industry
Work with Apartment List's industry leading datasets (e.g., rent estimates, renter survey), including evaluating and implementing ongoing enhancements to our methodology and producing research to support the validity and reliability of our data
Gain exposure for our research by building relationships with journalists, policy experts, and other influencers
Collaborate effectively with other members of the research team to achieve ambitious goals
