The team is seeking a junior economist/macro analyst to join the macro team within OppenheimerFunds, comprised of a portfolio manager/strategist and another analyst. The role will focus on applied research in the fields of global macro, financial markets and risk premia. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the firm's global macro strategy, working on projects spanning multiple asset classes such as global equities, fixed income, credit, commodities, currencies, real estate and alternative investments, with a top-down approach.
Responsibilities
Perform empirical research using economic and financial data: regression and statistical analysis, building valuation and forecasting models, back-testing of actionable investment ideas.
Partner with quantitative analysts within the group, developing proprietary economic and financial indicators to be integrated in the investment process.
Develop dashboards and other analytical tools to monitor global market trends and conditions.
Support research agenda outlined by senior management, following macro and quantitative research from sell-side firms, central banks, multilateral institutions and academic journals.
Background/Skills
Masters Degree in Economics, Financial Economics, or Econometrics.
1-3 years of work experience as economist, macro or investment analyst role.
Excellent quantitative skills, with advanced knowledge of applied statistics and econometrics.
Strong skills in Excel (including VBA), statistical packages (i.e. EViews, Matlab) and programming.
Very attentive to details, and strong ability to efficiently organize large amounts of data.
Understanding of macro and international economics, with a focus on business cycle dynamics, monetary/fiscal policy and balance of payments.
Strong drive, passion and curiosity to undertake research initiatives beyond assigned projects, contributing to the overall investment process also with own independent ideas.
