Lecturer - Teaching and Scholarship

The Department of Economics and Related Studies is seeking to appoint a Teaching and Scholarship Lecturer to contribute to teaching in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Teaching responsibilities will be primarily in Economic History, contributing to and leading in the delivery of our existing modules for Economics undergraduates.

You may also contribute to teaching in other areas of Economics, which may include quantitative, and/or the supervision of MSc dissertations on appropriate topics.

The post is a full time position of 37 hours per week and is available for a fixed term of 19 months from the 1 January 2018 to 31 July 2019. A job share would be considered.

You will have a PhD, or equivalent professional experience, in Economic History, History or Economics. You should also hold an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

You will have extensive knowledge in Economic History to design, develop & deliver teaching to Economics students, within an Economics programme. You will be able to provide learning support to students and have knowledge of a range of teaching techniques & methodologies. You will have advanced and specialist IT knowledge and highly developed communication skills to engage with a wide ranging audience using a range of media.

You will have the ability to teach at any level within your area of expertise, and across a range of subjects at a more introductory level. You will have the ability to innovate in teaching & learning through the development of teaching materials, and demonstrate enthusiasm & commitment in the process of teaching. You will have the ability to present specialist material in a logical, coherent and interesting manner, both to students and fellow specialists. You will have the ability to obtain new knowledge by theoretical and/or practical methods, and to disseminate scholarly work.

Experience in teaching & learning in HE at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or in an evidenced based context, and of using different delivery techniques to enthuse & engage students, is essential. You will be able to evidence that you can plan & design teaching across a range of modules, and lecture / lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate & postgraduate teaching successfully.

The Main Responsibilities include:

Teaching & marking at BSc and/or MSc level.
Deliver lectures, seminars & practicals.
Provide supervision to students.
Develop module content & materials, and undertake a range of associated administrative and managerial responsibilities.
Supervise & mark BSc and/or MSc dissertations.
