Salary: Glasgow: £29,200 - £35,795 / London: £31,500 - £38,600

Ofgem is committed to making a positive difference for energy consumers through effective regulation of the market and close working with suppliers to ensure sustainable energy for consumers and businesses in the UK.

Policy Advisors support key policy work, analysing issues and delivering recommendations. As part of a small, dedicated team in the Consumers and Competition directorate, you will help to tackle some of the most fascinating and high profile issues faced by the industry. These include areas such as:

• improving the processes for switching suppliers;
• the delivery of our work under our Consumer Vulnerability Strategy;
• driving improvements in suppliers' customer service;
• realising the wider environmental benefits of smart meters;
• monitoring and researching the retail energy market to assess the impact of reforms and identify areas that would benefit • from policy interventions.

Currently, we're looking to recruit a number of Policy Advisors in both Glasgow and London. We are looking to create a talent pool of applicants from this process that we can use to fill current vacancies and subsequent positions over the next 3 months. Roles are available on a permanent, fixed term and secondment basis. We are therefore keen to talk to people with proven track records in policy analysis, particularly in relation to competition and consumers. You must have the relationship management skills to work closely with energy industry experts, specialist consultants and government stakeholders, planning and prioritising work schedules as well as taking responsibility for providing robust recommendations. It calls for flexibility, project coordination skills and outstanding communication at every step of the project plan.

The Consumers and Competition directorate provides an excellent opportunity to play a role on high-profile issues that will deliver real, beneficial changes for consumers.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive and competitive benefits package, which includes:

• Up to 30 days' annual leave
• Excellent training and development opportunities
• The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
• Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
• Subsidised gym and restaurant (London only)
• Interest free season ticket loan.
