Policy Analyst - Junior Economist

Description

The Policy Analyst will work within the Office of Policy (PPL/P) and provide technical and analytical support to PPL/P and the Agency Chief Economist. The Agency Chief Economist will also be supported by a Senior Economist, also within PPL/P, and by bureau administrative staff. The Chief Economist, the Senior Economist in PPL/P, and the incumbent of this position will work as a team, with division of labor and assignment of responsibilities as determined by the Chief Economist in coordination with the Director of PPL/P.

Key Duties and responsibilities

Bring evidence and analysis to bear on policy and strategy issues
Provide research assistance, writing assistance and analytical contributions in support of PPL and Agency priorities
Maintain and/or access data bases as required for ongoing monitoring and reporting on development trends and prospects
Provide technical and coordination assistance for the Economics Briefs Series, Economist Brown-bags, Economic Growth Workshops, and other professional activities for economists
Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Master's degree in relevant field (e.g. economics, political science, public policy, international development, international affairs, international public health)
Minimum of 5 years of work experience, including 3 years of relevant work experience related to global development
Demonstrated ability to successfully work as a proactive and resourceful member of a team
Experience working as a researcher and/or analyst required, including demonstrated experience authoring policy research papers and/or policy briefs as well as experience authoring blog pieces related to global development policies. This can include experience working as a fellow, researcher, or analyst focused on international development at a think tank, university, policy research center, or global development policy advocacy organization
Work experience that enabled good familiarity with US government global development policies
Work experience that enabled good familiarity with and interactions with leading global development policy research institutions
Coursework in economic development, preferably at the graduate level
Demonstrated competence in empirical research using econometrics and other statistical techniques
Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets and statistical software packages
Demonstrated capability to produce well-written analytical papers
Work experience dealing with economic issues affecting developing countries and/or foreign aid policy issues
Experience working in developing countries is considered a plus but not a requisite
Ability to show legal right to work the United States
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level clearance
