Post-doctoral Fellows in Economics

Introduction:
Jinan University (Hereafter JNU) is one of China's best universities and is part of the prestigious group of '211' universities set up by the Chinese government. JNU is the leading university in China in catering to the needs of Overseas Chinese and foreign students.
The College of Economics at JNU was established in 1980. It is the pioneer Economics colleges in China. It has three top-level doctoral programs in Theoretical Economics, Ap-plied Economics, and Statistics, as well as three post-doctoral research institutes including the Centre for Economic Development and Innovation Strategy Research (CEDISR).
CEDISR was set up in 2016. The Centre combines JNU's renowned strengths in the areas of economics and management science. It is active in promoting strategies and policies that will help China's ongoing reforms. The Centre intends to become one of China's leading influential think tanks in the area.
In the past three years, CEDISR has hosted a number of important conferences, in-cluding the China Youth Economist Forum, the Jinan-Asian Development Bank Joint Conference, the National Game Theory Conference, the First Labor Economics Frontier Forum, and the Experimental Economics Annual Meeting. During this time, the Centre has published a series of influential papers and reports.

Salary and Benefits
i. Post-doctoral before-tax salaries range as follows:
Class I: 200,000 CNY per year
Class II: 250,000 CNY per year
Class III: 350,000 CNY per year.
ii. Senior positions in JNU can be applied for during the period of contract, if suitable positions become available
iii. A housing allowance of 2,000 CNY per month is provided.
iv. Bonuses are awarded for publications in top journals coauthored with co-supervisors.
v. Additional research funds may be made available by co-supervisors Professors Chunchao Wang and Nick Webber, among others, as deemed appropriate.

Application Requirements
Applicants should
i. Hold a PhD in labor economics, population economics, health economics, mathematic economics, econometrics, or a related field.
ii. Be early-career scholars or graduating PhD students.
iii. Be able to demonstrate strong quantitative analysis skills.
Be able to demonstrate a strong independent research ability and academic performance, and be able to work with co-supervisors and other team members.
iv. Overseas candidates holding (or about to hold) a PhD from the world's top 200 uni-versities may be considered with priority (this requirement does not apply to candidates from mainland Chinese universities) .

Job Requirements
Successful applicants will be expected to
i. Apply for research funding with co-supervisors
ii. Publish academic papers as follows:
Class I: Publish at least one paper in an A3 journal during period of contract.
Class II: Publish at least one paper in an A2 journal, or two papers in an A3 journal, during period of contract.
Class III: Publish at least one paper in an A1 Chinese journal, or host one national research
fund.
iii. Assist in the promotion and development of CEDISR.

The above job description forms part of the contract of employment, but may be revised following discussions with an appointee.

Introduction of co-supervisors of Research Team:
Chunchao Wang
Dr Chunchao Wang is a Pearl River Distinguished Professor, the Dean of the Jinan University - University of Birmingham Joint Institute, and the Head of the Department of Economics of Jinan University in Guangzhou, China. He is the science and technology consulting expert to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the legislative consultant to the Guangzhou People's Congress and Government as well. Prior to serving as professor, he worked as a research fellow at Harvard University (US), and visiting professor at the University of Oxford (UK) and Sciences Po Lille (France). He received the best postdoctoral award from the Peking University. His main research fields cover Development Economics, Labor Economics, Rural Economics and Health Eco-nomics. His book, titled "Employment decision-making and labour mobility in Chinese peasant households" (in Chinese), was published in 2010 and was awarded a Research Prize by the Ministry of Education of China in 2013. Some of his academic English papers have appeared in various prestigious international journals such as the Journal of Comparative Economics, the Journal of Macromarketing, the China Economic Review, The Economic and Labour Relations Review etc., and more than ninety Chinese academic papers have been published in various renowned Chinese academic journals, such as Economic Research, Management of the World, Sociology Research, Statistics Research, World Economy, etc.
Professor Wang is currently pursuing research projects concerning rural migrant workers, human capital development for children, urban development and the Chinese economy, involving the National Science Foundation of China, and the National Social Science Funding project, among others. He has been conducting several large-scale surveys on rural migrant workers in the Pearl River Delta of China for a number of years.
Professor Wang has been awarded some important research prizes in China, namely, the First-ranking Award of the National "Challenge Cup" Academic Science and Technology Work Competition for University Students, the Ninth National Statistics Outstanding Re-search Achievements, the Fifth Hubei Social Science Research Achievements, and the Guangdong Philosophy and Social Science Prominent Research Achievements, Best Paper in Journal of Economic and Social System Comparison (2012, 2014), etc.

Nick Webber
Dr Nick Webber is Professor of Mathematics at the Jinan University - University of Birmingham Joint Institute. Before this he was Deputy Dean of the Joint Institute and the University of Birmingham Director of Programmes. He has held appointments at De Montfort University, City University London, and the University of Warwick. His PhD, in Theoretical Physics, was taken at Imperial College, University of London.
His research interests are in mathematical finance, computational economics and fi-nance, interest rates, decision making, and mathematical sociology. He has published two well received books, "Interest Rate Modelling" and "Implementing Models of Derivative Securities." His research papers have been published in journals such as the Journal of Derivatives, Mathematical Finance, the Journal of Computational Finance, Applied Mathematical Finance, and Quantitative Finance.
Professor Webber is currently engaged in theoretical and empirical work in decision making and sociological modelling, resulting so far in several working papers and a pub-lication in Annals of Operations Research. He is interested in supervising theoretical, em-pirical, or computational projects in mathematical and computational Economics & finance, behavioural Economics & finance, and in ethical and sociological modelling.
