The Economic and Social Research Institute, founded in 1960, is located in Dublin's South Docklands area. Its mission is to produce high quality research, relevant to Ireland's economic and social development, with the aim of contributing to knowledge and informing policymaking and public debate. It has over 100 staff including economists, sociologists, social scientists, support and technical staff.

We wish to recruit a Post Doctoral Research Fellow for research in the area of Spatial Economics and the Environment.

Economic Research

The Economic Analysis Division of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin undertakes research in a wide range of economic areas, including Energy and Environment; Communications and Transport; Macroeconomics; Internationalisation and Competitiveness; and Labour Markets and Skills.

Over many years, the ESRI has sought to develop an understanding of how the Irish economy behaves and how policy can be expected to affect its future development. The Institute's approach to developing this understanding has drawn on both macroeconomic and microeconomic techniques and perspectives.

The ESRI's Environment Research Programme covers a wide range of topics. Current examples include how spatial development patterns affect the environment; effects of fiscal measures on the environment, behavioural studies of consumer decision-making and how aspects of the local environment affect health outcomes.

The results of the Institute's research, and the policy implications that flow from it, have been the subject of a huge range of publications by ESRI staff over more than five decades. All research projects undertaken by the ESRI have a significant public good element and results are published without restriction.
