Bring your analytical skills and your economic expertise to this Regional Economist position in Vancouver.

As a member of the Market Analysis team, you are the key econometric and technical specialist and are responsible for ensuring the technical integrity and quality of the most complex pieces of Market Analysis Centre's production suite. You will provide analytical advice, guidance and services, develops regional economic and housing market forecasts for specific markets and provides econometric modelling services to support business needs.

You will also be responsible for promoting CMHC as the most comprehensive source of housing market information, analysis, and forecasts in the country by using a variety of methods to enhance the public's knowledge of regional economic and housing market conditions.

How You Will Be Contributing

Develop, implement, monitor and maintain a range of analytical tools, protocols and practices.
Provide effective analysis and forecasting of provincial/regional economic and housing variables including econometric modelling services.
Monitor relevant economies by analyzing and forecasting economic and housing trends used to advise clients of the risks, problems, and opportunities associated with an economic recession or expansion.
Develop in-depth knowledge of key economic sectors within the region and provides functional advice and guidance as well as detailed analysis on specific resources, industries and companies.
Analyze housing demand through modelling.
Monitor, analyze, and prepare forecasts for housing supply variables at the provincial and regional level.
Develop sophisticated and complex data management capabilities to meet the region's needs for timely and complete economic and housing market data.
Develop and maintain comprehensive econometric models and/or predictive equations at the metropolitan and provincial levels to assist in the development of forecasts.
Undertakes special econometric/statistical analysis of economic and housing market variables as required.
Provides functional guidance, coaching and support to Market Analysts in their forecasting activities by challenging and reviewing forecasts, trends, assumptions, and methodologies.
Develops new tools and provides technical support for Analysts on modelling of economic and housing variables; provides training on the use of various software and other supporting tools to ensure that Analysts are using a full range of best practice forecasting techniques.
Reviews and assesses various modelling and forecasting techniques and recommends best methods to develop forecasting capabilities.
Conduct research on topics that influence regional housing markets and housing market performance and consults with external parties to determine specific areas where research may be required.
Reviews and edits the analytical content and oversees the technical\analytical, language and any other element of the content that influences analytical quality and integrity.
Assist in the identification and assessment of specific high-risk markets.
Disseminates economic and housing market information through presentations, panel discussions, and contacts with key clients and industry groups.
Acts as a spokesperson on housing market topics through interviews with the media, housing industry representatives, consultants, researchers, government department officials, and the public.

What We Are Looking For

A commitment to demonstrating CMHC values
Master's Degree in Economics and 8 years of relevant experience in economic and market analysis or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive experience in analyzing the general economy, financial markets, statistics, and time series methods.
Extensive experience in performing econometric modelling, multiple regression analysis, seasonal adjustment, simulation techniques, and using statistical software packages.
Authoritative knowledge of econometric modelling, regressions analysis, and simulation techniques.
Demonstrated ability to analyze business and economic conditions and assess their impact on the housing market and CMHC operations.
Strong communication skills (written and oral), including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles to communicate technical information clearly and deliver messages that have the desired effect.
